There have been many blessings on this topsy turvy journey that is setting up our own company. Don't get me wrong, there have been many (read: MANY) challenges but as anyone who knows us will testify, we are much more comfortable thinking of the bright side of life.
One of them is the pure, unadulterated joy of seeing our humble homeware choices resonating and selling through this gorgeous Nordic Edit website or in our showroom in East Lothian.
It's hugely gratifying and rewarding - the latterly particularly so, as purchases help us to continue to grow our range and keep our Scandinavian design dreams alive. Please keep those purchases coming, thanks!!
One of the more unexpected blessings however has been the incredible opportunity to collaborate with other women running their own businesses.
We started our very first Fika workshop in February with de-cluttering genius Beata who provided smart, sensitive solutions for making homes the tranquil havens we dream about.
We were thrilled when Edinburgh surface designer and artist Emma Cochrane agreed to lead a little class customising Vita Copenhagen lampshades (we hope to share some amazing images of these soon!) in March.
And in June, the super talented floral designer Louise Bassett from Birch and Bloom will show us how to create a Summer Wreath to help us get a Midsommar vibe going. This is going to be incredible so book your ticket NOW!
It doesn't stop there. We had the delightful opportunity to come in contact with local artist Sandra Vick. Whilst Nordic Edit sells exclusively Scandinavian homeware brands, we love Sandra's bird print designs and felt that they would look beautiful when paired with a Ferm Living wooden frame.
The frames are a small work of genius because they don't need glass or indeed 4 sides to frame your print. It simply slots into the two pieces of wood (top and bottom) and screws hold the wood in place. It works with different sizes of paper as Sandra's pieces prove and puts paid to that annoying problem of buying a gorgeous artwork and then struggling to find a frame that is the right size and weight.
The connection, the support and the joy of finding fabulous small businesses and boosting each other's offering, confidence and audience has been a real blessing and something we very much hope will continue to thrive. We can help each other if we stick together and support each other.
Please do contact us if your business has an connection to home-life, Scandinavia, the outdoors and spending time with friends and family - there's always room in the nest for more!
